NASA Image of the Day

Hurricane Celia
Perfectly circular, powerful Hurricane Celia spaned hundreds of miles over the Pacific Ocean in this image from June 24, 2010. Rough-textured clouds surround the storm’s distinct eye. Farther from the center of the storm, spiral arms appear thinner and smoother. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer, or MODIS, on NASA’s Aqua satellite captured this true-color image of Hurricane Celia at 1:55 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time on June 24, 2010. Just five minutes later, the U.S. National Hurricane Center classified Celia as a Category 4 hurricane with sustained winds of 135 miles per hour. Image Credit: NASA

Phlare & Schools

Above anything, Phlare is dedicated to the education of children. Our line of products is built using imagery to inspire and educate, with the hopes that space will become a passion. Even if they do not become inspired by space, perhaps they will become interested in other sciences.

All of the science cards use question-and-answer techniques which can be used in individual or group activities. The Mars Map & Information Sheet contains a section on physical features which lists the coordinates of said features. The Lunar Science Cards contains coordinates of physical features which can be found on the Lunar Map. Both maps contain the landing sites of missions, which can be used in practicing grid coordinates.

In general, the products are appropriate for children no younger than 5th grade. The Hubble Science Cards & Cosmology Information Sheet is the most complex product, as the topic it is covering is the most difficult.

We provide substantial discounts to schools and school districts when they purchase more than one of a product. We have a school catalog, which can be requested through the link below. Be sure to note your school affiliation.
